If You’re Proud of Your Record, Face Real Contest! – Kingibe Throws Down Gauntlet to Wike”

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the National Assembly, has thrown down the gauntlet to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, challenging him to subject his so-called achievements to the test of a free and fair electoral process.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Her remarks come in response to a recent statement credited to Wike, in which he allegedly claimed that the outcome of the 2026 FCT council elections was already known.

In a strongly worded statement shared on her social media platforms, Senator Kingibe reminded all stakeholders that elections in the FCT are constitutionally under the purview of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—not the FCT Administration or any of its political appointees.

“If the Minister truly believes in the progress he claims to have made, then he should not be afraid of electoral competition,” Kingibe asserted. “Let the people be the judge.”

She continued:

“Any overt or covert suggestion that election results can be predetermined by anyone other than the electorate is not only illegal—it is a betrayal of democratic trust.

This kind of rhetoric corrodes public confidence in the system, deepens distrust in governance, and risks sparking tensions that our fragile democracy cannot withstand.”

Kingibe challenged Wike to embrace open contestation rather than manipulate the process, insisting that genuine achievement should have nothing to fear.

“If your administration’s performance truly resonates with the people, then there is no need for electoral interference. Let the ballots speak,” she added.

She disclosed that she had already initiated formal communication with relevant authorities, urging them to monitor the political environment in the FCT closely in light of what she termed “dangerous rhetoric.”

Senator Kingibe also called on political parties, civil society groups, youth organisations, and the people of Abuja not to be discouraged but to rally together and defend democratic ideals.

“To the political class, civil society, and residents of Abuja: do not be intimidated. This is your city and your democracy. The fight for accountable governance and credible elections must be won,” she urged.

“Mobilise, sensitise, and organise. Go door to door. Talk to your communities. Let your voices be heard. And when the time comes—vote with purpose,” she added.

In conclusion, Senator Kingibe vowed to use every constitutional and legal avenue at her disposal to defend the sanctity of the electoral process and ensure that the will of the people prevails.

“I remain firmly committed to protecting your rights and ensuring that democracy is not subverted in the FCT,” she said. “We will not allow Abuja to become a playground for political manipulation. Instead, it must stand as a beacon of democratic integrity.”
