Edo Judgment: PDP Takes High Road, Says ‘We Accept With Dignity’

According to NIVONEWS, the party expressed its position in a statement issued on Thursday in Benin City and signed by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee. Aziegbemi said the PDP remains committed to democratic ideals and respects the authority of the judiciary despite the setback.
“Today, we stand before you with hearts full of gratitude, not bitterness; with clarity, not confusion; and with hope, not despair,” the statement read. “We have come to the end of a long legal journey, culminating in the judgment of the Supreme Court. As a party rooted in the rule of law and democratic values, we accept this decision with grace and dignity.”
According to NIVONEWS, Aziegbemi added that while the legal verdict may not have favored the PDP and its candidate, the ultimate judgment still lies with the people and God.
“The Supreme Court has spoken, yes, but the Supreme God remains the final and ultimate judge. He knows the true desires of Edo people and the direction they seek for their future.”
Reflecting on the nation’s democratic journey, Aziegbemi acknowledged that the ruling is a reminder of both the progress made and the work that still lies ahead in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral institutions.
“We remain hopeful,” he said, “that our democratic processes will one day truly reflect the will of the people—free from manipulation or fear.”
He further praised the people of Edo for their resilience and continued support for the PDP, stressing that the journey toward a better state is far from over.
“To the resilient people of Edo State, we say thank you for your courage and trust. We may not have secured the verdict we hoped for, but our resolve is unwavering.”
According to NIVONEWS, the party urged its supporters to remain peaceful and united, promising that the PDP will continue to be a platform for progress, a voice for the voiceless, and a beacon of justice.
