Starving the Southeast? Otti Slams Unfair Revenue Sharing, Demands Justice for Abia”
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has called on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to consider increasing the state’s share of federal revenue to support the delivery of critical infrastructure and development projects.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Otti made the appeal on Sunday while receiving the RMAFC Federal Commissioner representing Abia, Mrs. Nkechi Oti, who presented him with a report following her familiarisation tour and stakeholder engagements across the state.
The governor noted that additional federal allocations would enable his administration to scale up its developmental efforts, stressing that Abia has demonstrated prudent financial management, as confirmed by a recent report from the Debt Management Office (DMO).
“Any support you can offer in increasing our federal allocation will be deeply appreciated by both the state and its people,” Otti said. “We have numerous projects in the pipeline, and with more funds, we can do much more.
“As you may have seen in last week’s DMO report, Abia has made significant strides in reducing its debt profile. This is a direct result of our commitment to disciplined and purposeful spending — we only spend when absolutely necessary and for the right reasons.”
The governor also expressed appreciation for the insights shared by the commissioner’s team and reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to act on the observations.
Responding to concerns about overstaffing at the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Otti pledged swift action, stating that the matter would be addressed urgently.
“We don’t want to worsen the unemployment situation, so rather than laying off staff, my instruction was for a restructuring process,” he explained. “Where there is excess capacity, redeployment should be considered. The Head of Service will be involved, and the review should commence as early as tomorrow to determine a sustainable solution.”
Governor Otti congratulated Mrs. Oti on her appointment and assured her of his administration’s continued cooperation with RMAFC in the interest of the state.
Earlier, Mrs. Oti explained that her visit was part of a statewide familiarisation tour following her recent appointment. She praised the governor’s progress in areas such as infrastructure, the digitisation of internal revenue processes, the revamp of public schools and health centres, and the recruitment of over 5,000 teachers.
However, she also pointed out lingering issues such as overstaffing at ASOPADEC and the need for deeper engagement with communities in oil-producing areas.
Also present at the meeting were the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Uwaoma Ukandu; the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Goodluck Ubochi; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communication, Mr. Dodo Okafor.

The Bangbola Oyewo family of the Ese-Ola Royal House remembered him as a beloved family man, traditional leader, and an inspiration to generations of theatre practitioners.
