In the face of rising political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has said the newly formed opposition coalition is well-prepared to withstand infiltration, internal sabotage, and clashing ambitions that may threaten its unity.
According to NIVONEWS Malami acknowledged that political sabotage and betrayal are ever-present risks in any coalition. However, he stressed that the alliance—which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and potentially unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—was built with mechanisms to confront and overcome such threats.
“In any political arrangement, the possibility of infiltration cannot be dismissed,” Malami said. “But the key point is this: we are determined to press on. We will continue, and we will overcome. We are proactively addressing challenges as they arise.”
The former minister, who served in the cabinet of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, added that political coalitions are inherently vulnerable to internal crises, subversion, and competing ambitions.
“You cannot eliminate the possibility of crisis, infiltration, or other disruptive elements,” he noted. “But what matters most is our commitment to confronting and surmounting them. That’s the critical focus.”
Responding to concerns that personal ambition could derail the group’s objectives, Malami conceded that ambition is a natural component of politics. Still, he emphasized the importance of discipline and strategic management within the coalition.
“Ambition is part and parcel of political engagement. The challenge lies in how well it is managed,” he said. “We cannot ignore its existence, but we are committed to managing it responsibly. That resolve is essential to our collective success.”
