“Nigeria First!” – Wike Reveals Why He Joined APC-Led Government
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained that his decision to join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration was based on his conviction that it would deliver results.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a thanksgiving service held to mark the successful completion and inauguration of key projects in the FCT, Wike urged Nigerians to exercise patience, assuring them that many of the country’s current challenges would soon be overcome.
According to NIVONEWS, he praised President Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the administration had recorded remarkable progress within just two years, crediting the President for giving ministers clear directives aimed at driving national development.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, also called on churches to continue praying for President Tinubu and those working with him, while cautioning religious institutions to steer clear of politicians and past leaders who are only interested in personal gain.
“Let me be clear: if President Tinubu’s administration wasn’t working, I would never have supported it,” Wike declared. “FCT residents and Nigerians at large can see the difference. Before now, it was nearly impossible for the FCT to access funds. But Mr. President, in his wisdom, ensured we were removed from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), which had been hindering our development. Today, the results are visible.”
He further warned the church to be wary of political manipulation, saying, “In 2023, the church almost made a grave mistake. We must be more cautious going forward. That decision could have cost some of us our future. Don’t just take politicians at their word. Ask tough questions. We are politicians—we know how the game is played. Don’t let propaganda mislead you.”
Wike cited the example of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, describing how the facility had been poorly managed in the past.
“You won’t believe it,” he said. “The previous operator paid only N50 million to the government annually. That was allowed for years. These are the same people claiming they want to rescue Nigeria. When Mr. President visited the centre, he called it an eyesore and ordered an immediate shutdown. In just six to seven months, we fully rehabilitated it. Now, in less than three weeks since reopening, we’ve generated over N700 million.”
He criticized former public office holders who failed to deliver when they had the opportunity.
“Many of these people had eight, even 20 years in power. They didn’t bring infrastructure or meaningful development to their states. Back then, Nigerians weren’t angry. Now that they’re out of office, they want to act like saviours and stir discontent.”
“If I stand before you today and say I want to rescue Nigeria, you have every right to ask what I did when I had the chance. When I was Governor of Rivers State, I can point to what I achieved. The same goes for my work in the FCT—look around and see the results.”
He concluded with a swipe at critics: “Remember, those bombings on the Kaduna train route didn’t happen under Tinubu. But where were the rescuers then? They had the chance and failed. Let’s not be deceived by those who want to rewrite history now that they’re no longer in power.”
