Ekiti 2026: Afuye Threatens Political Purge Over Disloyalty, Sabotage

Published

As preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye has issued a stern warning to political appointees, urging them to shun disloyalty and betrayal that could sabotage the All Progressives Congress (APC)‘s chances at the polls.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Afuye cautioned that it would be highly ungrateful for individuals entrusted with political positions to undermine the same administration that empowered them. She emphasized the value of loyalty to one’s benefactor—Governor Biodun Oyebanji—who, she said, provided them the platform to serve and contribute to the state’s development.

The deputy governor made these remarks in Ado-Ekiti during the burial thanksgiving service for her late mother, Olori Esther Iyalaje Adegboye, held at the Government House Chapel. Olori Adegboye, who passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 97, was laid to rest on June 27 at her hometown in Ikere-Ekiti, in a ceremony marked by pomp and heartfelt tributes.

The thanksgiving event drew dignitaries, including First Lady Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, top government officials, and political leaders. Prayers were offered for the success of the Oyebanji-led administration and for enduring peace in both Ekiti State and Nigeria.

Expressing gratitude to the governor, his wife, traditional rulers, political allies, and the people of Ekiti, Afuye lauded their overwhelming support, which made the funeral a memorable occasion. She reiterated her call to political officeholders to remain loyal to the administration for the sake of their personal integrity and continued service.

Delivering a sermon at the event, Ekiti State CAN Chairman, Dr Emmanuel Aribasoye, urged Nigerians to lead lives of honesty and righteousness, stressing that such values were crucial for national upliftment and moral revival.

Meanwhile, a governorship hopeful from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emmanuel Fayose, has lambasted Governor Oyebanji’s performance, declaring his intention to unseat the incumbent in the 2026 gubernatorial contest.

Fayose made his position known during a familiarisation tour of Ado and Irepodun/Ifelodun local government areas over the weekend. He accused the Oyebanji-led government of squandering public resources and focusing more on political endorsements than actual governance.

Despite an increase in federal allocations, Fayose claimed that Ekiti State continues to suffer from poverty, infrastructural decay, and poor development outcomes. He also criticized the wave of endorsements for Oyebanji’s second term, dismissing them as “political theatre” aimed at deceiving the public.

However, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Segun Dipe, fired back at Fayose, describing him as a “political opportunist” desperate for relevance.

“Fayose’s claims are baseless and desperate. The people of Ekiti can see the real progress under Governor Oyebanji and remain firmly behind him,” Dipe stated.
