The Federal Government has rolled out an Expired Visa Amnesty Initiative to encourage compliance with Nigeria’s updated visa policy and strengthen secure migration practices.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Saturday by Akinsola Akinlabi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
According to Akinlabi, the amnesty programme offers foreign nationals with expired immigration documents an opportunity to regularise their status in the country without facing penalties.
Effective from May 1 and set to end on September 30, the initiative targets individuals who have overstayed their visa validity or breached visa conditions.
Eligible categories include holders of expired Visa on Arrival (VoA), expired Single or Multiple-Entry Visas, and those whose Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) lapsed more than 30 days ago.
The NIS urged all affected individuals to take advantage of the window by regularising their status through the dedicated portal https://amnesty.immigration.gov.ng before the deadline to avoid future sanctions.
To facilitate smooth application, a support team has been set up to assist applicants throughout the amnesty period. Inquiries and assistance requests can be directed to amnesty@immigration.gov.ng.
Akinlabi reaffirmed the NIS’s commitment to promoting legal migration, upholding national security, and ensuring transparent immigration processes.
Further information is available on the official Nigeria Immigration Service website: www.immigration.gov.ng.
