Speaking during an interactive session with journalists and political stakeholders in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his confidence in President Tinubu’s reform-driven leadership and the overwhelming support he continues to enjoy from Nigerians. He characterised the coalition—reportedly aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—as a “needless distraction” intended to derail the administration’s developmental momentum.

“Nigerians will never return to Egypt,” Sanwo-Olu said, alluding to the nation’s rejection of outdated political ideologies and regressive leadership models.

According to him, the goal of the coalition is simply to frustrate the President and stall the real progress being made. “But President Tinubu is not distracted. He understands the game and remains laser-focused on delivering results,” he added.

The proposed alliance comprises several high-profile politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former governors Nasir el-Rufai and Rauf Aregbesola. Despite their political pedigree, Sanwo-Olu dismissed the grouping as a coalition of “disgruntled actors” united more by personal grievances than a shared national vision.

He underscored the tangible results already delivered under President Tinubu’s leadership, citing major economic and social reforms such as foreign exchange stabilization, the student loan scheme, improved federal allocations to states post-subsidy removal, strategic tax reforms, rising oil production, infrastructure expansion, and a renewed focus on workers’ welfare and minimum wage.

“President Tinubu is not just governing—he’s rebuilding Nigeria. His legacy of empowerment, economic realism, and inclusive governance is already bearing fruit,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

When asked whether the President or the APC felt threatened by the opposition’s growing rhetoric, the Lagos governor was emphatic: “Absolutely not. Nigerians are discerning. They see who’s delivering and who’s just making noise. The facts speak louder than any propaganda.”

He echoed sentiments earlier voiced by some presidential aides, describing the coalition as a mix of “political desperados” and “internally displaced politicians” with no compelling agenda beyond opposition for its own sake.

“Their only unifying goal is to stop Tinubu, not to build Nigeria. Such coalitions, built on resentment instead of vision, are doomed to collapse under their contradictions,” he asserted.

When asked what advice he would give to President Tinubu amid rising political tensions, Sanwo-Olu responded: “Stay the course. Millions of Nigerians, irrespective of party affiliation, understand the complexity of governance. They know the challenges we inherited. They trust his leadership—and they’re standing with him.”

He urged Nigerians to remain focused, resilient, and undeterred by political distractions, assuring that the administration remains committed to delivering transformative change across all sectors.
