Terror Unleashed: Gunmen Kill 28 in Fresh Borno, Sokoto Attacks

In one of the coordinated attacks, militants stormed Malam Fatori, a town about 200 kilometers from Maiduguri in Borno State, near the Lake Chad region, around 1:20 a.m. GMT, arriving in several vans mounted with machine guns. They launched an assault on an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp, killing at least 11 people, before setting ablaze the local hospital and several government facilities.
However, troops swiftly engaged the attackers and successfully repelled them, regaining control of the area, according to Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, spokesperson for the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating in the Lake Chad basin.
In a separate attack in Sokoto State, gunmen believed to be members of the Lakurawa gang stormed Kwalajia village as residents were preparing for afternoon prayers, killing 17 people in cold blood.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army reported the recovery of 56 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the Marte–Dikwa Bridge in Borno. The Army shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) account that the devices were discovered during a clearance operation by troops of 24 Brigade, Operation Hadin Kai, in the Dikwa area.
The IEDs had been carefully hidden along the strategic bridge, allegedly intended to cause massive casualties and disrupt both military logistics and civilian movement along the vital route.
Thanks to the quick response of the troops, a potential disaster was averted. The Army confirmed that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit had safely neutralized the explosives and that normal traffic had resumed in the area.
The statement added that clearance operations have been intensified across the region to limit terrorist movements and reinforce the protection of civilian lives and infrastructure.
