Sule Lamido Breaks Ranks, Says He’ll Support Peter Obi If Coalition Chooses Him
Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has declared his willingness to support Peter Obi—or any credible candidate—if he emerges as the consensus flagbearer of the newly formed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Lamido made this known while addressing journalists, responding to questions about whether he would back Obi, who has pledged to serve only one term if elected president.
“I will support Peter Obi or any candidate who is genuinely committed to rescuing Nigeria,” Lamido said. “But I remain a loyal member of the PDP. My support doesn’t require me to abandon my party.”
He stressed that Nigeria must move beyond ethnic and regional politics, advocating instead for competence and vision in leadership.
“Leadership isn’t about where you come from—it’s about your ability to deliver. The North has produced several presidents, yet the region remains underdeveloped. What have we gained? We need a united front to confront the APC and restore hope to Nigerians. I will back any movement that shares that mission.”
Lamido also revisited the origins of the North-South power rotation arrangement, saying it was a PDP invention aimed at national healing after the annulment of the June 12 election.
“It was a temporary solution to rebuild trust, not a permanent fixture. Unfortunately, zoning has now become a stumbling block rather than a unifying tool,” he added.
