2027 Twist: Kwankwaso’s Political Future in Jeopardy as NNPP Reaffirms Expulsion

Published

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has firmly dissociated itself from its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, asserting that he will not be allowed to use the party’s platform to contest the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on Saturday, NNPP National Chairman, Agbo Major, emphasized that both Kwankwaso and his ally, Buba Galadima, remain expelled from the party and no longer represent its interests or have any official association with it.

Major was reacting to Galadima’s recent appearance on national television, where he claimed that Kwankwaso would remain in the NNPP and run for president in 2027. The chairman dismissed Galadima’s remarks as “misleading and completely false.”

“The NNPP expelled Kwankwaso and Galadima long ago. They do not speak for us and cannot use our platform for any political ambition,” Major declared.

He clarified that the party’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kwankwasiyya Movement, headed by Kwankwaso, expired after the 2023 elections and would not be renewed.

“For the record, we will not welcome Kwankwaso back into the NNPP under any circumstance. His time with us brought internal strife and instability,” Major stated.

He further accused Kwankwaso of attempting to hijack the party by altering its logo and dragging it into needless legal disputes.

“It was only after a court ruling that INEC reinstated our original logo, which had been tampered with during a sham convention organized in Abuja,” he said.

Major also expressed regret over the party’s decision to hand Kwankwaso its 2023 presidential ticket, vowing that such a mistake would not be repeated.

“Kwankwaso may be banking on another free ticket like the one he got in 2023, but that will not happen again,” he added.

The NNPP chairman went on to say that Kwankwaso lacks the democratic credibility to challenge President Bola Tinubu in any national election, stating that “his ambition is dead on arrival.”

He criticized Kwankwaso for consistently attacking the president and urged him to create his own political platform if he wishes to pursue future ambitions.

“Our party has moved on. We’re already engaging with credible aspirants ahead of 2027 and will strictly adhere to due process and constitutional guidelines in selecting our next flagbearer,” Major said.

He insisted that the NNPP would no longer hand its ticket “on a silver platter,” especially not to someone who, in his words, “betrayed the party’s trust and is no longer a member.”

Major urged the public to disregard any statements made by Kwankwaso or Galadima on behalf of the NNPP.

“As a party, we believe in constructive criticism based on issues, not personalities. Kwankwaso should form his own party and stop attempting to drag NNPP into unnecessary controversies. We’ve moved forward,” he concluded.
