Tech or Nothing: Abiodun Urges Ogun Youth to Embrace ICT as New Knowledge Hub Debuts
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has urged Nigerian youths to take full advantage of the vast opportunities in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to become self-reliant and future-ready....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Governor Abiodun made this call on Thursday during the official launch of Window on America, an ICT-driven initiative established by the U.S. Consulate in partnership with GFA Technologies, hosted at the Ogun State Tech Hub along Kobape Road, Abeokuta.
He described the American Window project as the outcome of a visionary public-private collaboration involving the Ogun State Government (via the Bureau of Information Technology), GFA Technologies, and the U.S. diplomatic mission.
According to the governor, the centre serves as a dynamic and inclusive platform that connects the aspirations of Nigerian youth with global opportunities.
“Ogun State recognises the transformative power of digital innovation in driving sustainable economic development, job creation, and improved quality of life,” Abiodun said.
He noted that this understanding has led to significant state investments in digital infrastructure, including fibre optic expansion, digital literacy campaigns, and the creation of innovation clusters.
“This facility represents more than just a physical space—it is a hub for knowledge sharing, skills development, and international collaboration. It brings together local ambition and global ideals,” he added.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that the project affirms his administration’s belief in partnerships over competition and in the power of shared vision to fuel innovation.
The Window on America space offers a range of free programs such as digital literacy workshops, English conversation clubs, and seminars on global affairs. It also provides access to American literature, journalism, and digital resources.
“These aren’t just conveniences—they are vital tools for tomorrow’s workforce,” the governor said.
Also speaking at the event, Acting U.S. Consular General, JoEllen Gorg, described the Window on America as a symbol of what can be achieved through forward-thinking leadership. She noted that it is part of a growing network of 29 such American Spaces across Nigeria and the second to be established in Ogun State.
The centre, she said, aims to empower young Nigerians through entrepreneurship, leadership development, and tech skills. It also provides resources for studying in the United States, English language learning, and cultural engagement.
Equipped with modern computers, high-speed internet, thousands of physical and digital books, and billions of academic resources, the space offers immense value to youths, entrepreneurs, educators, and creatives. Gorg encouraged them to explore its full potential, assuring continued U.S. support.
GFA Technologies co-founder, Debo Omololu, revealed that his company has invested over N400 million in Ogun State and currently employs more than 1,000 software engineers. He called on young people to leverage the initiative to become globally competitive.
Earlier, the Acting Consular General paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
