Branded as a “Special Humanitarian Outreach,” the initiative provided food items, essential supplies, and cash gifts to over 120 widows from various units under the 1 Division’s Area of Responsibility.
NAOWA also extended support to women in maternity wards, children in the accident and emergency unit, and injured soldiers receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital.
The outreach received widespread praise from beneficiaries and military families, symbolizing the association’s enduring commitment to the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel and their loved ones.
Speaking at the event, the President of NAOWA, Mrs. Mernan Oluyede—represented by the Deputy President and wife of the Chief of Policy and Plans, Mrs. Bilkisu Ibrahim—emphasized that the effort was more than an act of charity; it was a solemn tribute to the sacrifices of fallen heroes and their families.
“NADCEL 2025 is not only a celebration of military strength, but also a time for compassion and reflection—a moment to recommit to supporting those who have borne the heaviest burdens of military service,” she said.
Highlighting the focus of the outreach, she added, “Today we honour 120 widows who symbolize courage, resilience, and the dignity of sacrifice. Their stories remind us of the immense price paid for peace and unity in our nation.”
Addressing the widows—many of whom were dressed in black veils and Ankara outfits adorned with military motifs—Mrs. Ibrahim said:
“We see your pain, your bravery, and your unwavering strength. These gifts are small tokens of our love, appreciation, and steadfast promise to stand beside you—today and always.”
She noted that NAOWA was working to build a more compassionate and inclusive barracks community, one where no widow is left unsupported. The outreach aligns with NAOWA’s broader mission of “Enhancing Humanity Through a Steadfast Commitment to Unity, Service, and the Preservation of Enduring Legacies.”
Expressing gratitude to NAOWA and the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association, Mrs. Ibrahim prayed that their sacrifices would continue to foster unity and stability within the military community.
“As we celebrate NADCEL 2025, may this outreach strengthen our shared resolve to serve, support, and uplift one another,” she concluded.
The heartfelt gesture moved many of the widows to tears as they received their food and cash packages with gratitude.
