INEC unveils proposed new guidelines for reviewing election results

The new rates, effective Wednesday, mark a ₦100 drop from ₦1,230 per litre in Lagos and a ₦95 decrease from ₦1,260 per litre in Abuja.

Observations show that several NNPCL outlets in Lagos, including stations along Isheri Oshun Road, Apple Junction, and Ago Palace Way, have already implemented the revised prices. In Abuja, motorists saw the new ₦1,165 per litre rate at stations in Jabi and Wuse.

The adjustment provides modest relief to consumers who have faced repeated fuel price hikes in recent months.

The reduction comes even as many oil marketers have yet to reflect the earlier ₦100 per litre cut in petrol’s gantry price by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which lowered its price to ₦1,075 following a dip in global crude oil prices.

The previous spike in crude prices was driven by geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Iran, and Israel, which raised concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supply, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a key transit route for oil shipments.

Prices began to ease after former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the conflict could be resolved soon, alleviating fears of prolonged supply shortages. Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell by about 8.45%, dropping from roughly $110 per barrel to around $92 per barrel. The decline also followed European ministers’ discussions on releasing strategic oil reserves to stabilise energy markets.
