David Mark Quits PDP — What Next for Nigeria’s Former Senate President?

Former Senate President David Mark has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved leadership crises and internal divisions as key reasons.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement dated June 27, Mark, a founding member of the PDP, described the party as a shadow of its former self, plagued by “deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis, and irreconcilable differences,” which he said have subjected it to public ridicule.

Mark’s exit comes shortly after his appointment as one of the interim leaders of the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“I have remained loyal to the PDP through its highs and lows, including the mass defection that followed our 2015 presidential loss. I stood firm and committed to rebuilding the party,” he wrote.
“However, recent developments have made continued membership untenable. After wide consultations, I’ve decided to resign and align with the National Coalition of Political Opposition to help rescue Nigeria and safeguard our democracy.”

Version 2: Narrative and Emotive

In a stunning political shift, David Mark, former Senate President and founding member of the PDP, has parted ways with the party he once vowed never to abandon—even as others fled after the 2015 defeat.

In a statement dated June 27 and personally signed, Mark expressed heartbreak over what he described as the total collapse of internal cohesion within the PDP, blaming deepening rifts, leadership failures, and irreconcilable differences for his exit.

“The PDP I helped build no longer exists,” he lamented. “It has become a hollow shell of itself, mocked by the public it once inspired.”

Mark’s resignation follows his high-profile appointment as a key interim figure in the new opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a movement aimed at forging a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I have consulted far and wide—with family, friends, and political allies—and the decision is clear. I am joining forces with those committed to rescuing this country and preserving its fragile democracy,” he declared.

Emefiele Trial: Court Sets Date For Ruling On Omoile’s Statement.

Published

on

An Ikeja Special Offences Court has fixed May 4, 2026, to rule on the admissibility of an extra-judicial statement made by a co-defendant in the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the statement was made by Henry Omoile, who is standing trial alongside Emefiele, and the court will determine whether it was made voluntarily and is admissible as evidence.

Justice Rahman Oshodi fixed the date after both prosecution and defence counsel adopted their final written addresses during a trial-within-trial proceeding.

The hearing is focused on whether Omoile’s statement was obtained under lawful conditions or through coercion, as alleged by the defence.

Emefiele is facing a 19-count charge bordering on alleged gratification, corrupt demands, and abuse of office, linked to transactions worth about $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion.

Omoile is also facing a three-count charge over alleged unlawful acceptance of gifts relating to dealings with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Omoile’s counsel, Adeyinka Kotoye (SAN), argued that the statement should be rejected, claiming it was not made voluntarily and violated provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, including lack of video recording and concerns over coercion.

Emefiele’s lawyer, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), also urged the court to discount the statement, arguing that involuntary statements are inadmissible under the Evidence Act.

However, the prosecution, led by Director of Public Prosecutions Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), insisted the statement was properly obtained and made in the presence of Omoile’s lawyer.

He added that the content of the statement did not support claims of coercion and did not implicate Emefiele.

The court adjourned ruling to May 4, 2026, while also fixing June 26 and June 30, 2026, for continuation of the main trial.
