Blues Stun Rivals: João Pedro Seals Shock Move from Brighton to Chelsea!
Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Brighton forward João Pedro, who is now eligible to feature in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The London club, currently in the quarter-final stage of the competition, secured the 23-year-old Brazilian for a fee of £60 million.
João Pedro, who had been on holiday in Brazil, cut his break short to fly to the United States for a medical and join up with his new teammates.
With the deal finalised on July 2, Pedro is expected to be available for Chelsea’s clash against Palmeiras in Philadelphia on Saturday at 02:00 BST.
Pedro departs Brighton after an impressive spell, making 70 appearances and netting 30 goals across all competitions. He initially joined the Seagulls from Watford in 2023 for around £30 million, which was then a club-record transfer.
Reacting to his move, João Pedro said:
“Everyone knows Chelsea is a big club with a great history. They’ve had fantastic players in the past and still do now. I’m excited to be part of it. As a Chelsea player, the goal is simple — to win.”
Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler also commented on the transfer:
“This is a good deal for everyone. It represents excellent value for the club, especially in an area where we already have significant depth.
For João, it’s a huge opportunity — he’ll play Champions League football and push for a place in Brazil’s squad for next summer’s World Cup.”
Pedro becomes Chelsea’s fourth major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Liam Delap, Mamadou Sarr, and Dario Essugo.
The Blues are also close to completing a £50 million deal for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. However, unlike Pedro, the 20-year-old English winger won’t be eligible for the current Club World Cup, having already appeared in the tournament with Dortmund.
