The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended two suspected vandals and recovered a cache of stolen items following a swift operation in Uyo.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, said the suspects were arrested on June 29, 2025, along Ndiya Street, off Aka Road.
“On Sunday, June 29, at approximately 11:46 a.m., following credible intelligence about an ongoing act of vandalism at Ndiya Street, operatives from the Command quickly mobilised to the scene. The suspects attempted to flee on sighting the police, but one was apprehended immediately,” she said.
Further investigation led to the arrest of a second suspect later that day at about 3:40 p.m. at Ebiare Afiat Lane, also off Aka Road.
According to the PPRO, both suspects confessed during interrogation and led investigators to identify another individual, now at large, believed to be a major receiver of stolen property. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fugitive.
A search of the surrounding area yielded a trove of suspected stolen items, including:

One Fireman 1800 generator

One 12.5kg gas cylinder

One complete mechanic toolbox

Two wheelbarrows

One 4kg gas cylinder

One aluminium car wheel

One metal Coca-Cola stand

One tile cutter
-
One solar light panel
-
And other miscellaneous items.
DSP John said the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations and urged the public to continue supporting the police with timely and actionable intelligence.
“Community partnership remains crucial in tackling crime effectively. We encourage residents to promptly report suspicious activities,” she added.
