Speaking in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Saturday during a conference on countering violent extremism, General Musa encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope.
“Let us not get tired. Things are getting better,” he said. “We must keep cooperating with the security agencies to ensure lasting peace in Borno and across the Northeast.”
The event was organised by the Kalthum Foundation for Peace, in collaboration with the Network of Civil Society Organisations and the Borno State Youth Parliament. The conference focused on the role of educational institutions and students in combating violent extremism.
Highlighting the critical role of young people in peacebuilding, the CDS urged students to use social media, television, and radio platforms to counter extremist ideologies and promote unity.
“This sensitisation initiative is timely. It seeks to encourage grassroots awareness and action, leveraging education, civic dialogue, and responsibility to challenge radicalisation,” he said.
General Musa noted that extremist groups exploit factors such as illiteracy, poverty, and religious or ethnic divides, making awareness campaigns even more crucial.
He commended the organisers for recognising the vital role students play as stakeholders in national security.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kalthum Foundation for Peace, Ummukalthum Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the CDS, the military, and other security forces for their relentless efforts in the fight against terrorism in the region.
After the conference, General Musa visited injured troops at Maimalari Military Hospital. Accompanied by philanthropist Dr. Paul Odili, the visit included donations of cash, medicines, and medical equipment to support the wounded soldiers.
