Unstoppable! Kwara United, Rivers Angels Seize National Glory with Stunning Final Wins

In the men’s final, Kwara United made history by claiming their first-ever President Federation Cup title. The Ilorin-based side faced Nigeria National League (NNL) underdogs, Abakaliki FC — a team nicknamed “giant slayers” after a stunning run that saw them knock out top-tier Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs including Enyimba, Nasarawa United, and Ikorodu City.
However, their fairytale journey ended in heartbreak as Kwara United held them to a goalless draw in regulation time before sealing a 4-3 win on penalties. The victory not only delivered Kwara United’s first major trophy but also earned them a spot in the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup alongside Abia Warriors.
In the women’s final, record champions Rivers Angels extended their dominance with a thrilling 10th Federation Cup title after edging past Nasarawa Amazons in another penalty shootout.
Nasarawa Amazons had taken a commanding lead in the first half, thanks to a brace from Rukayat Shobowale. But Rivers Angels fought back in the second half with goals from Taiwo Ajibade and former Flamingos star Taiwo Afolabi to level the tie 2-2 at full time.
In the ensuing shootout, Rivers Angels held their nerve while Nasarawa Amazons faltered, missing two crucial spot kicks. The Port Harcourt side emerged 4-2 winners on penalties to retain their crown and reinforce their status as queens of Nigerian women’s football.
