Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing into law four landmark tax reform bills designed to overhaul Nigeria’s fiscal structure. In a statement released by his media aide, Kayode Odunaro, Adeola described the new laws as transformative, noting that they will remove burdensome taxes on low-income Nigerians, simplify compliance, drive local productivity, and enhance Nigeria’s appeal to global investors.
The senator, also a public finance expert and member of the Senate Finance Committee, praised the National Assembly for conducting thorough reviews and extensive public consultations before passing the bills. He said this participatory process ensured the reforms reflected national consensus and aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The laws—Nigeria Tax Act, Nigeria Tax Administration Act, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, and Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act—will harmonize tax regimes, protect taxpayers’ rights, and boost revenue through streamlined administration.
Adeola highlighted key provisions, including VAT exemptions for essential goods and services such as food, healthcare, and education, and tax relief for those earning under ₦800,000 annually. He added that the reforms would benefit small businesses through simplified filing, higher exemption thresholds, and protection from multiple taxation. With the economy showing signs of rebound—GDP growth at 3.86%, rising revenues, declining inflation, and surging non-oil exports—Adeola urged Nigerians to support full implementation of the historic laws to maximize welfare and drive national prosperity.
