Before signing a two-year contract extension with Al Nassr on Thursday, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was heavily linked with a possible short-term move to Club World Cup contenders Al Hilal. The Saudi Pro League giants were reportedly keen to bring the Portuguese icon on board for the tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino had even hinted at behind-the-scenes efforts to secure Ronaldo’s participation in the competition, despite Al Nassr not qualifying for the event.

Amid the speculation, Ronaldo instead opted to renew his deal with Al Nassr, focusing on preparing himself for the long season ahead — which includes the Nations League and the 2025 FIFA World Cup.

“I had some offers to play in the Club World Cup, but I didn’t think it made sense,” Ronaldo said in a video posted on by Al Nassr. “I prefer to get proper rest and prepare well, because the season will be long — we also have the World Cup later in the year. I want to be ready for both Al Nassr and the national team.”

Ronaldo also reaffirmed his commitment to the Saudi club, saying he was determined to lead them to major trophies.

“My goal is always to win something important for Al Nassr,” he stated. “That’s why I extended my contract for two more years — because I truly believe we can become champions in Saudi Arabia.”

Since joining Al Nassr in January 2023, Ronaldo has scored 93 goals in 105 appearances across all competitions and now sits at 932 career goals as he chases a historic 1,000-goal milestone.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
