Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the suspect, Oluwatobiloba Kehinde, was arrested on Saturday following a distress call from the victim.

According to her, the incident occurred on Friday, June 27, around 6:00 p.m., when the complainant was returning from a football field and was confronted by Kehinde, who demanded money and threatened to deal with him if he refused. Moments later, Kehinde’s gang members reportedly arrived on a motorcycle and joined him in assaulting the victim.

Odutola further revealed that the suspect later traced the victim to his family home while armed with a locally made pistol, and continued issuing threats to shoot him.

She stated, “On June 28, 2025, the Ogun State Police Command received a distress call from a male resident of Agbena Area, via Ojere, Abeokuta. The complainant alleged that the previous day, one Oluwatobiloba Kehinde accosted him, demanded money, and threatened violence. He later returned to the victim’s family house with a locally made firearm and continued his threats.”

Acting promptly on the report, police operatives arrested the suspect and recovered the weapon. Odutola added that preliminary investigations are underway and the public will be updated on developments.

The victims, Dr. Abu Ibrahim Babatunde and his younger brother, Dr. Tahir Abu Emhoye, were kidnapped on January 2, 2026, around 7:30 p.m. on City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi. While Dr. Tahir, a fresh graduate from Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, was killed by the abductors, Dr. Babatunde, a housemanship staff at Edo University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, was released on January 15 after a ₦50 million ransom was paid.

Items recovered from him included two knives, two mobile phones, a UBA ATM card, and ₦20,250. Identification parades confirmed him as one of the abductors.
