The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has applauded the resignation of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, describing it as a timely and honourable move that sets an example for other leaders battling health issues.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement posted on Friday via his official X handle, Obi said he had seen reports that Ganduje stepped down due to deteriorating health and has since vacated his office at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, though full details remain unclear.

Obi praised the former Kano State governor for “putting his health first,” calling his decision both “wise and honourable.”

“With reports of his declining health, it is a commendable act to step aside in recognition of one’s limitations to continue serving at full capacity,” Obi said.

He added that Ganduje’s decision should serve as a wake-up call to other political leaders whose medical conditions may be affecting their performance in office.

“Dr. Ganduje’s action challenges others in similar situations to reflect deeply. Those whose health now impedes effective service should take a cue from him,” Obi said.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s pressing issues require leaders who are not only capable but also physically and mentally sound, warning that the nation can no longer afford leaders hindered by frequent medical trips, long absences, or age-related incapacities.

“These factors are taking a heavy toll on our national development,” Obi noted.

He concluded by praying for Ganduje’s well-being, saying, “May God Almighty grant Dr. Ganduje a peaceful and fulfilling retirement.”

Meanwhile, sources within the APC have indicated that the party’s National Working Committee is set to announce an acting chairman shortly. A national convention to elect a substantive replacement is slated for December 2025.

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad also confirmed Ganduje’s resignation on X, revealing that one of the party’s national vice chairmen will serve in acting capacity until the convention holds.

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
