The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), has empowered about 100 women in Rivers State with tricycles—popularly known as Keke—and other essential tools to boost their economic independence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

As part of the credit-backed empowerment initiative, 40 of the women received tricycles during a presentation ceremony held at Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The initiative is an extension of the Queen Rider Programme, a nationwide scheme targeting the empowerment of 3,700 Nigerian women—at least 100 from each state and the Federal Capital Territory—through access to credit-financed vehicle ownership. The programme is being executed in partnership with Gamma Mobility.

Speaking at the event, CREDICORP Managing Director, Uzoma Nwagba, described the tricycles as more than just transportation vehicles, but symbols of “ownership, autonomy, and agency” made possible through structured, affordable credit.

“These tricycles represent ownership and empowerment, delivered through credit systems that are affordable and sustainable. They also boost demand for locally assembled vehicles, aligning with Nigeria’s industrial growth agenda,” he said.

He explained that the Queen Rider initiative forms part of CREDICORP’s broader plan to enable 50% of Nigeria’s working population to access consumer credit by 2030, helping them improve their quality of life through vehicle ownership, clean energy solutions, and youth entrepreneurship.

Nwagba also highlighted other initiatives under CREDICORP such as YouthCRED—for youths and NYSC members—and C.A.L.M.—targeted at increasing access to solar power and CNG solutions, all aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a more inclusive and credit-driven economy.

“President Tinubu has long championed consumer credit. His vision is that all Nigerians—from civil servants to entrepreneurs—should access life-enhancing goods and services now, and pay over time. This is the foundation of a functional, inclusive credit system,” he said.

Gamma Mobility’s Co-founder, Sam Esiri, described the Queen Rider scheme as a bold step toward restoring dignity, purpose, and prosperity to thousands of Nigerian women.

“This is not just a product rollout; it’s a declaration that Nigerian women deserve unrestricted access to the tools of economic empowerment,” Esiri stated.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Elizabeth John, expressed gratitude on behalf of the recipients, pledging to use the opportunity to transform their lives.

“We thank CREDICORP and their partners for putting smiles on our faces. We won’t take this opportunity for granted,” she said.

According to him, despite the pressure and financial difficulties, he rejected the offer and chose to remain committed to his principles.

“I was approached with cash by members of a political party to alter my content. They said they were going to change my life, that I’m earning crumbs, you know, give me dollars,” he said.

reports that Nwosu made the comments during an interview with Punch, where he explained the background to several decisions taken within the party over time.

He explained that stricter rules were introduced to prevent individuals from joining the party and quickly securing tickets without proper screening of their intentions.

According to him, the decision was influenced by past experiences involving internal challenges that affected party stability.

Nwosu also confirmed that Dumebi Kachikwu was expelled during a party convention, adding that the party later moved on to support the Labour Party presidential candidate during the general election.

He accused Kachikwu of playing a destabilising role within the party, describing his actions as destructive and harmful to its unity.

The ADC founder insisted that Kachikwu is no longer a member of the party, saying his claim to still represent the party was no longer valid following his expulsion.

He also criticised Kachikwu for continuing to publicly present himself as a presidential candidate of the ADC, stating that such a position had already expired.

Nwosu further alleged that ongoing tensions within the party are being influenced by a mix of internal actors and external interests, which he said has distorted the true nature of the dispute.

He added that individuals linked to the crisis have become entangled in broader political narratives, insisting that the situation is being exaggerated in the public space.
