Don’t Abandon Benue!’ — Lawmakers Press FG for Swift Humanitarian Intervention
The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to swiftly deliver relief materials to families displaced by the recent massacre in Yelwata, Benue State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Armed assailants, still at large, reportedly stormed the community on June 14, killing over 200 people and displacing thousands in a brutal, coordinated attack.
The resolution was adopted during Wednesday’s plenary after a motion of urgent public importance was moved by Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, who represents Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency.
Tarkighir described the incident as one of many recurring attacks in the region, which have fueled widespread insecurity, fear, and humanitarian distress.
“Thousands have been displaced, homes destroyed, and families shattered,” he lamented. “Similar attacks have become disturbingly frequent in and around my constituency.”
He emphasized the urgent need for intervention from NEMA and other relevant agencies, warning that any delay could escalate the crisis and lead to further violence.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the plenary, put the motion to a voice vote, and it received overwhelming support.
Consequently, the House resolved to:
-
Urge NEMA, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, and other agencies to immediately provide relief materials and medical assistance to affected families.
-
Set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the spate of violent attacks in Benue State over the past 15 years and recommend preventive measures.
-
Mandate the House Committees on Interior and Security to visit Yelwata and other affected communities in Guma LGA for an on-the-ground assessment.
-
Call on the Federal Government and security agencies to restore peace and safeguard communities at risk of further attacks.
-
Direct the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) for the Nigerian Army in Yelwata to bolster security and prevent future invasions.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
