Wike: FCT’s Rich and Powerful Not Paying Taxes — While Lagos APC Mobilizes for Grassroots Power

Wike made the observation on Tuesday during the commissioning of the newly completed Collector Road CN2 (Zakari A. Kyari Street) in Abuja. The event, held to mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office, was presided over by the President himself.
The road—stretching from Arterial Road N11 (Ahmadu Bello Way) in Mabushi to Katampe District—was developed by the FCT Administration and offers vital access to the Judges’ Quarters and other adjoining routes.
Wike, however, expressed displeasure that many of the capital’s elite—who often default on taxes and ground rent locally—are quick to fulfil similar obligations in cities like London and Washington D.C.
He highlighted that the construction of Road CN2 and related infrastructure in Katampe District was funded through the taxes and ground rents paid by dutiful residents.
“People complained that we sealed their properties over unpaid ground rent. But this is what that money achieves—essential infrastructure,” Wike said. “If you refuse to pay, how can we build these roads? Abuja’s wealth comes from taxes—nothing more. So how rich is the city if people won’t pay?”
Wike also reiterated his commitment to transforming the FCT despite opposition. Speaking during a recent inspection of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, he vowed not to be intimidated or blackmailed in carrying out his mandate.
He pledged to restore the Golf Club to its former glory and warned against any attempts to unlawfully take over federal facilities.
The club had been shut down indefinitely following internal conflict over ongoing structural reforms being introduced by the FCT Administration.

In a viral video detailing the incident, Sandra explained that hours after participating in the morning service, taking communion, and paying her regular offering, she attempted to fund a voucher purchase by transferring N1,640,200 to her personal Zenith Bank account. Instead, the heavy sum was erroneously sent to the church account.
Making a public appeal to anyone with contacts at Streams of Joy International, the single mother of two stressed that the funds do not belong to her and that the rightful owners have already begun demanding the money.
