Yahaya Bello Honoured! NUJ Presents Lifetime Achievement Award to Former Kogi Governor
Nigeria’s national journalists’ union has presented former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, with a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to media empowerment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) conferred the award during its 70th anniversary celebration held on Saturday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
Senator Smart Adeyemi, a former NUJ president and ex-lawmaker who represented Kogi West in the National Assembly, received the award on behalf of former Governor Yahaya Bello.
Bello’s nomination letter, jointly signed by NUJ President and his deputy, Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde, outlined the rationale behind the honour. The union commended him for his “remarkable contributions to the welfare of journalists, particularly in Kogi State” during his tenure.
A major highlight of Bello’s media support efforts, the union noted, was the GYB Annual Workshop — a flagship programme that trained nearly 200 journalists from across the country each year. The sessions focused on developmental journalism and writing skills, with veteran media professionals and journalism scholars serving as facilitators and judges for essay competitions. Winners were rewarded with cash prizes and other incentives.
