The assurance was delivered on Saturday by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President at a major defection ceremony held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Describing the governor’s move as courageous and visionary, Shettima hailed Eno’s defection as a strategic decision that aligns with the APC’s commitment to unity and loyalty.

“Mr. President asked me to personally assure you that your place in the APC is secure. You will not be sidelined or abandoned. This party is your home, and you are among brothers and sisters,” Shettima stated.

He further emphasized, “We rise together, even through the storms. We protect our own, and that is why, a decade on, we remain the party to beat.”

The event drew high-profile attendees, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who described Eno’s entry into the APC as a statesmanlike move signaling a new wave of political realignment in the South-South.

“This is more than a political shift; it’s a landmark moment for development, unity, and national integration,” Akpabio remarked.

He called on President Tinubu to prioritize strategic projects in Akwa Ibom, especially the Ibom Deep Seaport, which he described as crucial to the region’s and nation’s economic advancement.

“This is a party of loyalty, capacity, and vision, and we are bringing all of that into APC,” Akpabio added.

Also speaking at the event, APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, lauded Governor Eno’s defection, noting that he had transitioned from “political isolation to national relevance.”

Ganduje urged party members to receive the governor and his political base with open arms.

“This is a significant milestone. Governor Eno is coming with his political structure and loyal supporters. Let us welcome them as returning brothers,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by no fewer than 24 APC governors and a host of national party leaders, underscoring the importance the party placed on the governor’s decision.

In his remarks, Governor Umo Eno said his defection was driven by the need to strategically position Akwa Ibom for greater federal support and accelerated development.

“We are not afraid of change. This bold step is about aligning Akwa Ibom with the centre—for the benefit of our people,” Eno declared.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.

In a statement on Friday, the party’s spokesperson, Olusegun Adewara, said the development is a disturbing and dangerous politicisation of a case they claim has already been addressed through judicial processes.
