“Terror on the Highway: 22 Suspects Captured After Bloodbath Bus Assault”
ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) – Nigerian police on Sunday announced the arrest of 22 suspects linked to a mob attack that claimed the lives of at least a dozen people two days earlier in the country’s central region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A passenger bus was attacked by a mob in the Mangu area of Plateau State, according to a police statement issued on Saturday. The victims were traveling from Zaria in northwestern Kaduna State—approximately 400 kilometers (about 249 miles) from Mangu—en route to a wedding when they lost their way and were ambushed Friday night.
Police reported that 21 individuals were rescued from the “angry mob,” confirming fatalities among the passengers, though they did not specify how many were killed. Nigerian police, a federal agency, often report lower casualty figures than local sources or eyewitnesses.
However, Amnesty International stated that 12 people were killed on the spot, with 11 others injured during the brutal attack. “Authorities must ensure those truly responsible for this horrific act are held accountable,” the rights group said in a statement on Saturday.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, also condemned the incident, calling on security forces to deliver justice and put measures in place to prevent future occurrences.
Nigeria’s north-central region continues to grapple with escalating violence, often fueled by farmer-herder conflicts and deadly raids by armed gangs. Just two weeks earlier, at least 100 people were killed in a gun attack on a village in nearby Benue State.
