Police in Kaduna have confirmed that the individual who caused a stir during President Bola Tinubu’s Thursday speech is Umar Mohammed, a mentally unstable supporter of the All Progressives Congress from Anguwan Muazu.
Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan said in a statement on Friday that Mohammed has a history of psychiatric illness and is “of unsound mind.” Despite this, he is described as a staunch supporter of both the president and the state governor.
According to Hassan, Mohammed told investigators he was driven by intense emotion and a long-standing desire to meet the two leaders. Wearing APC campaign regalia and holding supportive banners, he had passed through normal event security and was admitted into the stadium alongside other fans.
The incident, reported by Peoples Gazette, momentarily halted President Tinubu’s televised speech as he appeared startled, watching his security team respond swiftly to block the intruder’s approach to the stage. A video clip of the moment has since made the rounds online.
