“This Must Stop!” — Plateau Governor Condemns Mangun Mob Chaos, Reaches Out to Kaduna

Published

on

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has expressed profound shock and grief over the tragic mob incident that led to the death of eight people in Mangun District, Mangu Local Government Area, around 6 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Preliminary findings have confirmed that the victims—who were en route from Zaria in Kaduna State to Quan’pan Local Government Area of Plateau State for a wedding—lost their way and unwittingly entered Mangun District, a community currently plagued by relentless terrorist attacks. Tragically, this misstep led to the death of eight innocent individuals, while several others sustained varying injuries and are now receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Mangu.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who visited both the survivors at the hospital and the scene of the attack on Saturday, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the mob action as entirely avoidable and utterly condemnable.

He lamented that Mangun and nearby communities like Chakfem in Mangu LGA and Mushere in Bokkos LGA have endured over a month of coordinated terrorist onslaughts, resulting in daily fatalities and mass displacements. However, he firmly stressed that no amount of frustration or grief justifies such senseless violence against innocent travelers.

“This is a dark day for Plateau State,” Mutfwang said. “I never imagined we would witness such a horrific act of lawlessness within our state—especially from youths who, until now, have shown remarkable courage by supporting security agencies against violent attacks. It is heartbreaking and unacceptable that these same young people could turn around to commit such an atrocity.”

He declared that the state government would not tolerate acts of jungle justice and assured that the incident would not be swept under the rug.

Reaffirming Plateau’s long-standing values of hospitality and peace, the governor said: “We are committed to building a state that is safe and welcoming for all. We’ve consistently educated our youth on the need to respect the free movement of people. This incident has come as a rude and painful shock.”

Governor Mutfwang added that he had personally spoken to the Governor of Kaduna State and the Emir of Zazzau to express his deep condolences, and announced that a high-level delegation would be dispatched to commiserate with the government and people of Kaduna State, as well as the Zazzau Emirate.

He extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased, while assuring that the Plateau State Government would fully cover the medical expenses of the injured.

Acknowledging the anguish of communities under siege, Mutfwang warned that resorting to mob justice would only worsen the region’s woes. He directed security agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation, ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice, and put preventive measures in place to avert such tragedies.

He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s resolve to uphold Plateau’s legacy of tolerance and peace, pledging that the state would continue to stand by the victims and their families through this difficult period.

According to him, NAF air platforms successfully engaged the targets using precision-guided munitions, destroying the structures, neutralising multiple terrorists, and dismantling key logistics facilities. This was later confirmed through battle damage assessments.

The statement added that sustained air operations have continued to weaken terrorist networks, disrupting their activities and forcing them into more defensive and unstable responses.
