The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has boldly declared that there is hope for Rivers State, stating that no one can look at him and claim otherwise.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike made the statement on Friday in Abuja during the commissioning of the newly completed Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way), linking Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III (RR3). The project was officially inaugurated by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

Expressing appreciation to the people of Rivers State for their unwavering support, Wike also assured residents of the FCT that more developmental projects would be delivered under the Tinubu administration.

“I can confidently say that under President Bola Tinubu, the kind of development you will witness in Abuja will leave no doubt that there are leaders who genuinely care for this country,” Wike said.

Reflecting on the nationwide support he enjoys, Wike noted:
“There’s hardly a politician as lucky as I am. Every time we commission a project in Abuja, my friends from Rivers, Abia, Enugu, Sokoto, Cross River—across Nigeria—are always here.”

He praised the people of Rivers and Nigerians at large, asking those present to “take a bow before Mr President” in recognition of their loyalty and resilience.

“A man’s strength lies in the people who stand with him. If I were alone, no one would take me seriously. But today, no one can look at me and say there is no hope for Rivers State. That person does not exist,” he declared.

Wike also announced that the second phase of the Arterial Road N5 project, which will connect to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, is expected to be completed and commissioned before the end of the year. The contract was awarded by the Federal Executive Council in September 2024 and commenced the following month.

He further disclosed that engagement had begun with communities along the proposed route to facilitate construction and eventual linkage to the airport.

Meanwhile, it’s worth recalling that on March 18, 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly amid an intense political crisis sparked by the rift between Wike and Fubara.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Wole Oluyede, has challenged Governor Biodun Oyebanji to a public debate ahead of the June 20, 2026 election, while unveiling policy proposals aimed at addressing what he described as gaps in governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oluyede issued the challenge during a meeting with PDP members from all 177 wards in the state held in Ikere Ekiti on Saturday, saying a debate would give voters a clear comparison of both candidates’ plans.

He highlighted key challenges such as unpaid gratuities, limited access to affordable healthcare, unemployment, poor infrastructure, and weak grassroots economic development.

To address these, he proposed a structured plan to clear pension arrears, an expanded health insurance scheme for vulnerable residents, and stronger support for small and medium-scale businesses through grants, training, and partnerships. He also identified agriculture and agro-processing as major job-creation sectors for youths.

Oluyede said he is ready to be held accountable by the people, stressing that his proposals are practical and measurable.

He also urged party members to remain united following recent internal reconciliation efforts and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.

PDP leaders at the meeting, including factional chairman Tunji Odeyemi and campaign director-general Makanjuola Ogundipe, called for stronger grassroots engagement and unity within the party.

Other stakeholders described Oluyede’s emergence as providential, urging supporters to stay focused on the campaign.

The debate challenge is expected to add momentum to the early build-up toward the 2026 governorship race in Ekiti State.
