The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, announced late Tuesday that the Federal Government has begun finalising emergency evacuation plans for Nigerians stranded in Israel and Iran, following the rapidly escalating military conflict between the two nations.
Ebienfa stated that Nigerian embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran have already initiated contact with affected citizens and are actively coordinating evacuation logistics.
“In light of the worsening crisis between the State of Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Federal Government is putting the finishing touches on arrangements for the emergency evacuation of Nigerian nationals in both countries,” the statement read.
The ministry urged all Nigerians in the conflict zones to remain calm, comply with local security advisories, and promptly register with the nearest Nigerian mission to receive updates and evacuation details.
Ebienfa commended the efforts of the diplomatic missions in Israel and Iran, praising their swift action and dedication in reaching out to Nigerians during this critical time.
He further assured the public that the ministry is collaborating closely with international partners and local authorities to ensure a safe and orderly evacuation process.
In addition to its evacuation efforts, the Federal Government reiterated its call for restraint and peaceful resolution.
“Nigeria once again appeals for an immediate end to hostilities and urges all parties involved to pursue dialogue, uphold international humanitarian law, and prioritise the protection of civilian lives,” the statement concluded.
This development comes in the wake of a large-scale Israeli airstrike campaign launched on Friday, which reportedly targeted nearly 100 sites across Iran. The attacks are said to have resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian military officials, including General Mohammad Bagheri, the Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, and Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, condemned the assault as a “declaration of war” and vowed a “bitter and painful” retaliation, while the Iranian military has promised an “unlimited” response.
