Nigeria on the Brink! Labour Party Laments Bloodshed in Benue, Demands Urgent Action”
The Labour Party (LP) has strongly condemned the recent mass killings in Benue State, calling for the immediate deployment of security personnel to protect at-risk communities across Nigeria’s North Central zone.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Describing the attacks as “a renewed wave of mindless violence,” the party warned that Nigeria cannot persist on this dangerous path.
According to reports, the party’s National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, issued a statement on Monday demanding a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of those responsible—regardless of their status or affiliations.
Usman expressed deep sorrow over the loss of more than 100 lives, including women, children, displaced persons, and security agents, as well as the widespread destruction of homes and livelihoods.
“These were not just statistics. They were real people—innocent lives, cut short in horrific ways.
Children who deserved protection were slaughtered. Mothers were buried in mass graves. Fathers who tried to defend their families were gunned down without mercy,” she lamented.
The LP leader decried the unrelenting cycle of violence, noting that the torching of homes, assaults on security personnel, and continued attacks on displaced people all point to a glaring failure by the government to protect its citizens.
“The bloodshed in Benue should shake the nation’s conscience.
This is no longer a localized crisis—it’s a national shame. The sheer audacity of the attackers and the helplessness of the victims reveal a troubling breakdown in leadership and accountability,” Usman said.
Beyond military intervention, she called for a coordinated humanitarian response that includes food aid, shelter, healthcare, and trauma support for survivors.
She urged Nigerians to move beyond routine condemnations and demand real, measurable action—stressing that silence and indifference only embolden the perpetrators.
“To the bereaved families, I grieve with you as a mother.
To the orphans, widows, and shattered communities—your cries are heard, your pain is felt across the country, and your demand for justice must be answered,” she stated.
Usman reaffirmed the Labour Party’s resolve to advocate for policies that place a premium on the safety, dignity, and rights of all Nigerians—especially those in vulnerable and conflict-prone areas.
“Nigeria cannot continue like this,” she warned gravely.
