Busted! NAPTIP, DIA Dismantle Human Trafficking Syndicate, Rescue 20 Victims in Dramatic Raid
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), has uncovered a transnational human trafficking syndicate and apprehended three suspects believed to be part of a criminal network operating across Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to a statement released on Friday in Abuja by NAPTIP’s Press Officer, Mr. Vincent Adekoye, the joint operation led to the rescue of 20 victims trafficked from Equatorial Guinea and Togo into Nigeria for various forms of labour exploitation.
The coordinated raids were carried out across the Federal Capital Territory, Osun, and Nasarawa states, with operatives targeting known trafficking cells and their masterminds.
Adekoye noted that the arrests followed a directive from NAPTIP’s Director-General, Hajia Binta Adamu-Bello, who ordered heightened surveillance in border communities to counter the activities of criminal groups infiltrating Nigeria from neighbouring African nations.
He emphasized that NAPTIP has intensified its cooperation with other law enforcement agencies to curb the growing threat of human trafficking.
During debriefings, the victims revealed they were lured with false promises of lucrative employment in Nigeria. Instead, they were exploited and forced into various labour schemes. Many were in the process of arranging onward travel to Europe when they were intercepted.
In a separate incident, Adekoye disclosed that NAPTIP, with support from the Nigerian Embassy in Senegal, rescued a middle-aged Nigerian woman from Dakar, after she narrowly escaped death in the hands of traffickers operating in remote Senegalese villages.
The victim had been tricked into travelling to Senegal under the pretext of securing a job as a hair stylist and makeup artist. Upon arrival, she discovered that her employer, identified only as ‘Madam Rose,’ was running an illegal child and sex trafficking ring.
