Expressing confidence in the party’s readiness for the poll, Moghalu introduced Okaro during a gathering with ward chairpersons, councillors, and women leaders in Awka on Friday.
Okaro, a retired educationist from Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area, is a former chairperson of the Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission. She currently serves as the head of the Education Directorate of the Anglican Communion in the state.
Speaking at the event, which was attended by party members and key stakeholders, Moghalu explained that Okaro’s selection followed extensive consultations aimed at ensuring a gender-balanced ticket and a capable partnership.
“She is a devoted member of our party, with vast experience and a shared vision to transform governance in Anambra,” Moghalu said.
Reaffirming his commitment to voters, Moghalu declared, “My deputy and I will not let you down. We stand by our promises—hold me accountable.”
He urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation, stressing the need for unity and loyalty to secure victory at the polls.
Refuting claims of internal discord and alleged coalition moves, Moghalu insisted that the Labour Party in Anambra remains firmly united and fully prepared.
“Anambra is rich in untapped potential. Our real obstacle is not infrastructure, but the erosion of public trust in governance. We must restore confidence through transparency, accountability, and by tackling insecurity,” he added.
Moghalu also referenced his tenure as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, vowing to bring the same level of integrity and openness to the state if elected.
In her acceptance speech, Okaro expressed gratitude for her nomination and pledged unwavering commitment to the party’s success.
“I am honoured by this opportunity and ready to serve. With your support, Labour Party will emerge victorious,” she said.
PUNCH Online previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially listed Moghalu as the Labour Party’s candidate for the election—a move that also reinforced Julius Abure’s position as the party’s recognised National Chairman, sparking some internal controversy.
