Chinese National Arrested in Borno During Military Counter-Terror Operation....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Defence Headquarters has announced the arrest of a Chinese national during a recent counter-terrorism operation by Nigerian troops in Borno State.

While the individual’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, the military revealed that the suspect claimed to be a miner. He is currently in custody and undergoing thorough interrogation.

This arrest comes just days after the military disclosed the detention of four Pakistani nationals in the same region, allegedly involved in training terrorist elements.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, also confirmed the arrest of five terrorist logistics suppliers and collaborators during coordinated operations carried out between June 5 and 7. The operations took place across Kukawa and Ngala Local Government Areas of Borno State and Geidam LGA in Yobe State.

Items recovered during the raids include a vehicle, motorcycle, mobile phones, a Chinese international passport, and ₦10,000 in cash.

Questioning the Chinese suspect’s presence in an active conflict zone, Kangye said:
“Anyone can deny involvement, as is common with criminals. But the real question is—why was he there during an ongoing military operation?”

He assured journalists that a full investigation is underway to uncover the suspect’s intentions and any potential ties to insurgent groups.
“The Chinese national remains in custody and is being interrogated. Once the investigation concludes, we will release comprehensive details on the circumstances of his arrest, his purpose there, and whether he had accomplices,” he stated.

Kangye also addressed concerns over perceived delays in military response to distress calls, particularly in remote communities. He dismissed such claims as misleading, citing logistical challenges and operational protocols that must be followed.

“Our troops are not stationed in every village. Some incidents happen 10 to 15 kilometres from the nearest base. Before deployment, we must identify the appropriate subunit, assign a commander, and ensure the availability of vehicles and supplies. These things take time,” he explained.

Drawing a comparison to hospital triage systems, he added:
“You might feel ignored if you don’t understand internal operational priorities—but that doesn’t mean no action is being taken.”

Pantami, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May, was absent from the list published by INEC on Saturday.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms, the former minister’s camp described the development as a temporary electoral setback, assuring supporters that efforts were being made to resolve the issue.

The statement, signed by Professor Suleiman Mohammed Gombe, acknowledged the concerns raised by PDP members and supporters of the Pantamiyya Movement both within and outside Gombe State.

According to the statement, Pantami’s legal and liaison teams are engaging relevant PDP organs and INEC to secure compliance with a court order and address the omission within the period allowed by law.

The camp urged supporters to remain optimistic, stressing that the publication of the final list did not bring the matter to a conclusion.

“We are aware of the people working behind the scenes to frustrate good and responsible leadership in Gombe State,” the statement said.

Expressing confidence that the issue would be resolved, the camp encouraged supporters to sustain their mobilisation efforts and remain committed to the movement’s goal of serving humanity.

It also reaffirmed the unity between the PDP and the Pantamiyya Movement, stating that both remained committed to advancing the political aspirations of their supporters in Gombe State.

“No distraction will derail our course, in sha Allah,” the statement added.
