Bayelsa PDP Breaks Ranks, Celebrates Tinubu, Wike for ‘Safeguarding Democratic Values
The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded President Bola Tinubu, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what it described as their unwavering defense of democratic values in 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Acting State Chairman of the party, George Turnah, made this known in a statement issued on Friday through his media aide, Kelvin Loveday-Egbo.
Turnah praised the trio for their boldness, courage, and commitment to democratic governance, particularly in the face of the recent political crisis in Rivers State. He also commended the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly, PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and PDP South-South Zonal Chairman Chief Dan Orbih for their roles in standing up to anti-democratic forces.
He described President Tinubu as a “beacon of courage,” emphasizing that his resolute leadership has been pivotal in defending democratic ideals in Rivers State. “In light of the Supreme Court’s assertion that Rivers lacked genuine democratic governance, President Tinubu’s bold political stance has underlined the importance of integrity and accountability in leadership,” he said.
The PDP leader also praised the Supreme Court for acting as the custodian of justice, lauding its efforts in safeguarding judicial independence and confronting what he described as Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s authoritarian tendencies.
“The Supreme Court’s unwavering dedication to justice has reinforced the vital system of checks and balances in our democracy,” Turnah stated.
He further hailed Wike for his consistent opposition to impunity, both within Rivers State governance and the PDP, describing him as a champion for transparent and accountable leadership.
“Wike’s determined resistance represents a fight for democratic integrity at a time when it is most under threat,” the statement read.
Turnah extolled the 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike as “true defenders of democracy” for standing firm against what he termed the impunity of Governor Fubara, even at personal and political risk.
He also recognized Senator Anyanwu and Chief Orbih as symbols of resistance against internal tyranny within the PDP. According to him, Anyanwu’s legal battle against his removal as National Secretary and Orbih’s opposition to an alleged power grab by a cabal of governors demonstrate their commitment to democratic principles, even in the face of intense opposition.
