Reclaim the Classroom! Private Educators Push for Culture-Based Teaching Revolution”
Private school proprietors under the Association for Formidable Educational Development (AFED) on Wednesday called on Nigeria to adopt education models that integrate African traditions with modern innovations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The association emphasized that sustainable development across Africa can only be achieved through affordable educational solutions that are grounded in cultural heritage, locally available resources, and creative teaching strategies.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Bukola Ladoja, a matron of the association and former wife of an Oyo State governor, explained that the gathering aimed to promote accessible, high-quality education for all learners. She noted that AFED is instrumental in equipping school owners and educators with training programs that address students’ challenges in reading and comprehension.
Dr. Ladoja highlighted her personal contribution, having trained 250 teachers across five southwestern states, using methods that incorporate indigenous languages and technology to strengthen learning outcomes in AFED-affiliated schools.
At the AFED 2025 African Education Conference, themed “Harnessing African Wisdom and Innovation for Sustainable Development”, the association’s National President, Orji Emmanuel, underscored the urgent need to invest in education, stating that Nigeria’s future hinges on the quality of education provided today and in the years ahead.
He remarked, “Africa has long been a cradle of wisdom, resilience, and ingenuity. Our traditional learning systems—anchored in storytelling, mentorship, and apprenticeship—have raised generations of trailblazers. We must now merge this rich heritage with modern technology and progressive policy reforms to build an education system that is inclusive and transformative.”
Emmanuel stressed the importance of collaboration among educators, school owners, policymakers, and partners to ensure that no child is left behind and that education remains a powerful engine of development.
He also revealed that for over 25 years, AFED has led efforts to transform low-cost private education, ensuring that millions of children, regardless of their economic status, gain access to learning opportunities that prepare them for the future.
“Our theme this year reflects our conviction that true progress lies in merging our ancestral wisdom with today’s innovation,” he said, adding that AFED also supports street children and out-of-school youth with educational opportunities.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
