Political Opportunist? Gov Eno Labels Kenneth Okonkwo an ‘Attempted Lawyer on the Run'”
Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has fired back at Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo, following Okonkwo’s derogatory remarks labeling him a “political transgender.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Okonkwo, during a recent appearance on Arise Television, had expressed disappointment over Governor Eno’s rumored defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described Eno’s political stance as weak and unprincipled, particularly criticizing the governor’s statement that he could not fight like the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
“The worst from the opposition is joining the ruling party, while the best from the ruling party is defecting to the opposition,” Okonkwo said. He cited a statement by Eno’s own Commissioner for Information and Strategy, which emphasized ideological opposition to the APC — a sentiment Okonkwo claimed indirectly paints Eno as lacking in principle.
Okonkwo ridiculed Eno for publicly declaring, “I can’t fight like Wike. I want a smooth ride in 2027. I still love the PDP,” calling the statement politically “transgenderic.” He continued with crude analogies, mocking the governor for wanting Wike’s success without his confrontational style.
In a swift response, Governor Eno dismissed Okonkwo’s remarks in a video circulating online. He urged the public to disregard the actor’s comments, referring to him as an “attempted lawyer” and “failed politician” who fled from the Labour Party after an unsuccessful political stint.
“People like him—who are not even from Akwa Ibom—have tried everything,” Eno said. “He tried acting and was known only for ‘Living in Bondage.’ He tried law but has never moved a single motion. He tried politics with Labour Party but ran away. He is an attempted actor, an attempted lawyer, and an attempted politician. He should go back to his own state and fight there. We’re living the reality here.”
Governor Eno’s rebuttal adds fuel to an already tense political discourse, spotlighting the clash between personal ambition and public perception in Nigeria’s evolving political space.
