No Victory Without Strategy – Sowunmi Tells Atiku to Learn Tinubu’s Political Game”

Published

A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has voiced his disagreement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his current approach to building an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sowunmi criticized Atiku’s strategy, arguing that forming a coalition that does not have the PDP at its core is misguided. Speaking in an interview with TVC on Tuesday, the former PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State urged Atiku to draw inspiration from President Bola Tinubu, who successfully built a strong coalition while staying loyal to his political party.

According to Sowunmi, Atiku should be bringing opposition forces into the PDP rather than exploring alternative political platforms. He stressed that Atiku, having served as Vice President under the PDP and securing the party’s presidential ticket twice, owes it to the party to keep it at the center of any coalition efforts.

“I’ve always told people—while others may love Atiku with their hearts, I love him with my bones. But I cannot support him when he’s working against himself,” Sowunmi said. “You’ve run as Vice President on the PDP platform twice and been the party’s presidential candidate twice. So why should you now be shopping for another platform? If a coalition is necessary, why not bring people into your own party?”

He continued, “Look at your longtime political associate and rival. Even if you say he’s forming a coalition, isn’t he bringing everyone into his own fold?”

Sowunmi, who recently met with President Tinubu in Lagos, also praised the President’s ability to make people feel valued and included, regardless of their political backgrounds.

“Tinubu has this rare gift—he makes everyone feel important. Whether you’re a former opponent or an ally, every interaction with him leaves you feeling heard and respected. And when he gives you his word, he’ll say something like ‘ko le ye,’ which means ‘as far as humanly possible, it will stand,’” Sowunmi added.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
