Speaking during an interview on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) on Tuesday, Momodu lamented the disunity within the PDP, describing it as a major obstacle to effectively challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“My soul has left the PDP; only my body is still there,” he said.
“If the PDP were united, it could defeat the APC in 2027. But there are too many forces, both internal and external, working against the party.”
His remarks come in the wake of a wave of defections from the PDP to the APC. Momodu further alleged that the ruling party’s strategy is to systematically weaken the opposition.
Segun Sowunmi Expresses Willingness to Work with Tinubu, Says He’ll Exit PDP if Appointed
Meanwhile, former PDP governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Segun Sowunmi, has expressed readiness to work with President Bola Tinubu, saying he would formally resign from the PDP if given a role in the current administration.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Sowunmi—known for his close ties to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—acknowledged his past criticism of the APC but maintained that he would not hesitate to join Tinubu’s government if the opportunity arose.
“There’s never been any doubt that I can work with President Tinubu,” he stated.
“But if I do, I will officially leave the PDP because I don’t believe in divided loyalty.”
Recalling a prior conversation with the president, Sowunmi said Tinubu had once asked him directly about accepting an appointment.
“The only time I’ve held a government appointment was under Otunba Gbenga Daniel. I’ve always preferred directness and dislike meetings full of sycophancy—I go straight to the point,” he added.
