The protest aims to spotlight escalating economic hardship, growing insecurity, and what the organisers describe as the shrinking civic space under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In an interview with our correspondent on Monday, the movement’s National Coordinator, Juwon Sanyaolu, revealed that the protest will take place in no fewer than 20 locations nationwide.
“In Abuja, we’ll assemble at Eagle Square by 8:00 a.m. In Lagos, we have four key locations: Badagry, Maryland, Agbara, and Toll Gate, all kicking off at 7:00 a.m.,” he said.
“In Akure, Ondo State, the meeting point is Cathedral Junction by 8:00 a.m., while in Benin City, Edo State, we’ll gather at the Museum Ground by 9:00 a.m. In Niger State, the protest will take place at Gida Matasa by 8:00 a.m.
“For Yobe State, the gathering point is the Maiduguri Bypass Roundabout in Damaturu at 7:30 a.m., and in Oyo State, protesters will converge at Mokola Roundabout in Ibadan at 8:00 a.m.
“In Bauchi, the location is opposite the Bauchi School of ACR, Yelewam Makaranta, also at 8:00 a.m., and in Osun State, it will be held at Olaiya Junction, Osogbo.”
Sanyaolu listed five protest points in Delta State: Amukpe Roundabout in Sapele; Summit Junction and Koka Junction in Asaba; Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli; Effurun Roundabout, PTI Junction and DSC Roundabout in Warri; and Police Station Junction in Abraka.
“In Adamawa, protesters will gather at Juppu Jam Road in Yola by 8:00 a.m., while in Borno State, the protest will hold at the Kasuwan Gamboru Flyover, also by 8:00 a.m.,” he added.
The protest, scheduled for Nigeria’s Democracy Day, is intended to call for accountability and protection of citizens’ rights, Sanyaolu explained.
“Our core demands remain the same. June 12 serves as a symbolic moment to assert our democratic rights and demand good governance.
“The Constitution places the security and welfare of Nigerians as the government’s primary responsibility, yet these have collapsed under Tinubu’s leadership,” he said.
Citing a report by Amnesty International, he noted that over 10,000 Nigerians have died due to insecurity since the President assumed office.
He added that over 133 million Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty, and thousands have been displaced by insecurity and forced evictions.
