Power Move: Wike Honors Tinubu With Abuja’s Premier Conference Centre Rename!
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially renamed the Abuja International Conference Centre as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, in honour of President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Wike made the announcement during the inauguration of the renovated facility on Tuesday in Abuja. He also revealed that several halls within the complex have been renamed after key government figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola (referred to here as Kekere-Ekun, likely in error).
“This conference centre, now named Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, can stand alongside any other in the world,” Wike said. “As we inspected the project, we decided to honour those who have supported the FCT. The National Assembly, being a crucial arm of government, deserves recognition.”
He continued, “We’ve named the halls behind the main centre after Tajudeen Abbas, Godswill Akpabio, the Vice President, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria—representing the three arms of government. Though the building is under your [the President’s] purview, the halls bear these names, while the entire facility remains the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.”
Wike emphasized that the public deserves to know why the renaming was necessary. “This centre was originally built in 1991 under a military regime. Since then, no major upgrade has been done until now.”
He credited President Tinubu’s leadership for the successful rehabilitation of the centre, stating: “In just eight months, this is what we’ve achieved. Without your leadership, it would not have been possible.”
To ensure the sustainability of the facility, Wike announced that all users—government ministries, agencies, or individuals—must now pay to use the conference centre.
“Whether you’re from a ministry or an agency, if you want to use this venue, you must pay,” he stated. “Gone are the days of using the hall for free because it’s a relative’s wedding. This kind of premium facility deserves proper maintenance—and that comes at a cost.”
