Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Tony Okocha, criticized Fubara for failing to make any meaningful efforts to engage with the legitimately elected lawmakers who remain at odds with his administration.

“I can confirm that no reconciliation efforts are currently in motion in Rivers State. The suspended Governor, Fubara, has yet to initiate any steps toward mending ties with the legislators,” Okocha stated.

It will be recalled that on March 18, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the prolonged political conflict between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara.

Reports indicate that following this move, President Tinubu suspended both Governor Fubara and the entire State Assembly, appointing retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as sole administrator for a six-month period.

While PDP governors have contested the suspension through legal means, recent meetings involving Tinubu, Wike, and Fubara have stirred speculation that reconciliation may be on the horizon.

Amid rumours that President Tinubu may lift Fubara’s suspension on June 12, Democracy Day, Okocha issued a stark warning: “Only genuine reconciliation can protect him from impeachment. The Supreme Court has been clear that suspensions must follow due legal processes.”
