Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State have strongly opposed the alleged imposition of a chairmanship candidate ahead of the July 12 local government elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The aggrieved members accused a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Senator Anthony Adefuye, of forcing his son, Bayo Adefuye, on the party as the APC’s flagbearer for the chairmanship race in Yaba LCDA.

In separate petitions addressed to President Bola Tinubu and the GAC Chairman, Tajudeen Olusi, the protesters described the move as “undemocratic” and “unacceptable,” claiming it was designed to sideline grassroots aspirants.

The petitions were signed by Domingo Babajide (Ward A), Kemi Aboyarin (Ward B), Adediran Olorunnimbe (Ward C), Taoreed Abiona (Ward D), Alani Ifatokun (Ward E), Oladunjoye Omoniyi (Ward F), Olaofe Fatai (Ward G), Idayat AbdulRasaq (Ward H), and Shakiru Adebowale (Ward I).

They argued that Senator Adefuye, who hails from Somolu LCDA, lacked political roots in Yaba LCDA except for a brief stint as Sole Administrator that lasted less than a year.

The protesting APC members further alleged that no primary election or consensus meeting was held in the council area—an act they said directly violated the APC’s internal democratic processes.

“The way Senator Adefuye is pushing to install his son in Yaba at all costs is not only disturbing but also smacks of self-interest,” the petitioners stated. “We have over 12 aspirants legitimately seeking the chairmanship ticket, yet he suddenly encouraged his son to join the race without consultation.”

While reaffirming their loyalty to the APC and President Tinubu, the petitioners declared: “We love our party, we respect our president, but we will not accept Adebayo Adefuye as the APC candidate in Yaba LCDA.”

They appealed to President Tinubu and the GAC chairman to urgently intervene to prevent the situation from escalating into a crisis that could cost the party at the polls.

Responding to the allegations, Senator Adefuye dismissed the petitioners as disgruntled losers with no political clout.

Speaking to Sunday PUNCH, Adefuye insisted that his son was a legitimate contender from Yaba LCDA with an active political history in the area.

“This isn’t his first time contesting in Yaba. The local leaders are behind him,” he said. “I’m not getting involved in their drama. Petitions are being written everywhere. Until we return to proper procedures, petitions like these will keep coming.”
