Brace for Impact: Nigeria Faces Days of Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains – NiMet Issues Red Alert

In its weather outlook released Saturday in Abuja, NiMet warned that northern, central, and southern regions of the country will experience significant rainfall, with some areas expected to face thunderstorms accompanied by strong, gusty winds.
On Sunday, morning thunderstorms are anticipated in Taraba and Adamawa States, spreading by afternoon to Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi.
The North-Central region is forecast to begin the day under cloudy skies, with thunderstorms and rainfall developing later across the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau States.
Southern states are expected to see cloudy mornings, followed by evening rain showers in areas such as Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Edo, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa.
On Monday, thunderstorms and rain are forecast for Sokoto, Zamfara, and Bauchi in the morning, expanding later to Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Kaduna.
In the North-Central, the day may begin with storms over FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa, followed by evening rainfalls in Plateau, Kwara, Benue, and Kogi.
The South will likely see morning showers in Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with more extensive rainfall later across the entire region.
By Tuesday, isolated morning thunderstorms are forecast for Zamfara and Kaduna, with afternoon rain spreading across Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Gombe, and Borno.
Rain is expected in the North-Central region, including Niger, Plateau, and Benue in the morning, with evening storms in FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue.
In the South, areas like Lagos and Bayelsa may experience morning rains, while widespread rainfall is anticipated later in the day throughout the southern states.
NiMet cautioned that the thunderstorms could bring strong winds, potentially endangering lives and property. The agency advised residents to:
