One Term, One Shot! Makinde Pushes Radical Change to Nigeria’s Leadership Tenure”
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday advocated for a single tenure of five or six years for elected officials at all levels of government, instead of the current two-term structure of four years each.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The governor made this call while hosting Muslim faithful, traditional rulers, and political leaders at his private residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan, shortly after Eid-el-Kabir prayers. The delegation was led by the state’s Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal.
Notable attendees included the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja; PDP Deputy National Chairman, Taofeek Arapaja; former deputy governors Hazeem Gbolarumi and Hamid Gbadamosi; House of Representatives member Abass Adigun Agboworin; and the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States, Dawodu Makanjuola.
Speaking during the event, Makinde argued that a five- or six-year single term would give leaders enough time to focus on governance without the distraction of re-election campaigns. He urged a constitutional amendment to formalize the proposal.
Makinde said:
“Barka de Sallah to all our Muslim faithful. I believe we’ll celebrate many more by God’s grace.
Looking back on my own experience, I’ve already spent six years in office. But in 2020, due to COVID-19, we lost almost a full year. Then we spent another year campaigning for a second term. Now, people are already speculating about what’s next. So, out of eight years, we’ve had just about five productive years.
That’s why I believe a single term of five or six years, without distractions, is enough to deliver good governance. It’s not about me—it’s a constitutional matter, and I believe it’s time we looked into it seriously.”
In his remarks, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, representing the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, called for continued public support for Governor Makinde and offered prayers for greater success in his administration.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
