Tension Unwarranted! Authorities Refute Alleged Mass Kidnapping on Key Nigerian Highway
Kaduna— The Kaduna State Police Command has dismissed as false and baseless a report alleging the abduction of 150 to 200 people along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Command spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, stated that the Command’s attention had been drawn to a misleading report circulating on social media, which claimed that a mass kidnapping took place along the route.
Describing the report as entirely fabricated, Hassan emphasized:
“For clarity, there has been no incident of kidnapping along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway in the past two years. The area is under constant surveillance and is routinely patrolled round-the-clock by the Police, Military, DSS, and other security agencies to guarantee the safety of all road users.”
He further noted that the Command is treating the matter with utmost seriousness. Individuals or online platforms found responsible for originating or spreading the false information without credible sources will be summoned for interrogation, thoroughly investigated, and possibly prosecuted in line with the law.
The Police also reaffirmed the joint efforts between the state government and security agencies to maintain the safety and security of all residents and travelers in Kaduna State.
“The Kaduna State Police Command remains firmly committed to protecting lives and property, and urges the public to disregard unverified information and rely solely on official and credible sources,” Hassan concluded.

The Allegation: The survivor, Malam Babawo Tudun Nasera—whose 17-year-old brother Salim was among the deceased—stated in a video that authorities wanted the miners to halt operations, but they continued working based on instructions allegedly given by Babangida.

The Arrest and Detention: Nasera explained that the miners went to the site to earn a living to feed their families before NSCDC personnel arrested them and held them in custody for three days, allegedly refusing release efforts.

Suspicious Circumstances: Raising questions about the sudden deaths, Nasera noted that the detainees had eaten well the day before, speculating that heat exposure or some form of administered substance may have been involved.

Lack of Verification: It remains unverified whether Babangida personally owns the operation, holds a mining license, or owns the land, as the NSCDC maintains that the miners were operating illegally.
