Utomi Explodes: ‘If They Muzzle Me, I’m Gone!’” – Vows Exile If Free Speech Is Crushed

Former African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Pat Utomi, has voiced his frustration following a legal move by the Department of State Services (DSS) seeking to bar him from making public statements or organizing rallies related to his proposed shadow government initiative.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The DSS, in an application filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, requested an interlocutory injunction to restrain Utomi, his associates, and agents from engaging in any form of public mobilisation—such as roadshows, rallies, media engagements, or publications—until the main suit is heard. The agency cited national security concerns and the potential threat to public order and unity if Utomi proceeds with his planned activities upon his return to Nigeria on June 6.

Represented by lead counsel Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN), the DSS claimed that intelligence reports indicate Utomi, currently abroad, is set to return to Nigeria and begin a campaign supporting the formation of a shadow government.

In an interview with The Punch, Utomi expressed dismay over what he described as consistent efforts by the government to suppress his voice. He hinted at the possibility of leaving the country to live in peace.

“I’m increasingly disillusioned with this situation,” he said. “If the government is determined to silence me, I may simply relocate—perhaps to Ghana—and live out my retirement in peace. I’m not interested in conflict; I’m focused on building a better future for the next generation. Unfortunately, our political class often interprets critical opinions as threats.”

Utomi emphasized that his aim is to inspire young Nigerians to embrace freedom and progress, adding that it is now up to them to determine the future of the nation.

He confirmed that his legal team, led by Mike Ozekhome (SAN), had filed a response to the initial DSS suit.

Regarding the rallies that have drawn attention, Utomi clarified that the events in question were originally scheduled for December, not June 12 as feared by authorities.

The match was officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić, whose appointment and decisions during the tie have since drawn scrutiny within the Spanish club.

Tensions between Real Madrid and UEFA have remained high since the Super League controversy, and while relations were thought to have improved earlier this year, the latest defeat has reignited old suspicions.

Vinčić, who has handled several major European fixtures in recent seasons, including Champions League and Europa League finals, is now at the centre of renewed debate over officiating standards.
